Gujarat Institute of Mental Health (GIMH) is established under the Central Government Manpower Development Scheme, also known as Scheme A, as a Centers of Excellence (CoE) in the year 2017 under 11th Five-year plan. GIMH is situated in the Hospital for Mental Health campus, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The aim of the CoE is to upgrade and strengthen existing mental health hospitals/institutes for addressing the acute manpower gap and providing state of the art mental healthcare facilities.
The purpose of GIMH is to overcome the huge gap between the burden of care and the availability of appropriate mental health services in Gujarat. GIMH works towards producing Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatric Nurses, Psychiatric Social Workers, Researches and other mental healthcare professionals. It helps move Mental health infrastructure of Gujarat to a higher level with more compassionate standards of care.
GIMH will achieve its objectives as CoE through following key interventions:
